About the project

This project presented its self with many challenges and in the end many rewards as well. One of the hardest aspects for the project was finding primary sources. This was a challenge because during the time period photography was still in its early stages. Little written evidence existed as well because the topic of sexual relations, especially with prostitutes was not something people openly discussed. In order to find resources I not only looked into the archives of the Library of Congress, but also used search engines such as Google and JSTOR through George Mason to collect my sorces. I learned much about the history of what is now known as Federal Triangle and got a glimpse into life in D.C. during the mid to late 1800's. I also learned that primary sources on many topics in history are available if you know the right place to look.
